At Collins Career Technical Center, we're focused on the goal that every student leaves our career center employed, enrolled, or enlisted. Our comprehensive Career Counseling and Placement program focuses on providing students with the guidance and resources they need to achieve their career goals. Through our Career Navigation efforts, we offer personalized support to help students identify their interests and strengths, explore various career options, and develop a clear plan for their future. Our robust Work-Based Learning (WBL) program connects students with real-world experiences by partnering with local businesses and community leaders. Students can gain hands-on experience in welding, auto mechanics, graphic design, and more, helping them develop essential skills like communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking. With 250 hours of WBL required for graduation, our students are well-prepared to enter the workforce, pursue further education, or join the military. By collaborating closely with business partners, we ensure that our curriculum is aligned with current industry needs and that students receive valuable mentorship and feedback. At CCTC, we aim to ensure every student is on a path to a fulfilling and successful career, equipped with the training and resources needed to thrive in an ever-changing job market. Join us in our mission to prepare the next generation of skilled professionals and lifelong learners.

Work-Based Learning

The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) has recently put an emphasis on intertwining education with career-readiness. It is required that each student, grades 9-12, graduate from high school with 250 hours of work-based learning. Work-based learning allows students to sample real world experiences with local community and business leaders while in a protected environment. It is vital in demonstrating to students how to properly communicate, problem solve, and critically think their way through an ever changing workforce. Our students will graduate high school knowing what it means to be a lifelong learner.

Students can be granted Work-Based Learning hours when all of the following statements have been satisfied:

  • The learning experience includes a community or business mentor.
  • There is a learning agreement between the student, instructor, and mentor that clearly states learning outcomes of the experience.
  • Feedback related to the stated learning outcomes is provided to the student from the mentor.

Work-based learning and the exposure to interest driven experiences grants students the opportunity to obtain entry-level work experience and increase their career opportunities upon completing their secondary education.
