Permanent SR 243 Closure & Detour Guide for CCTC Main Campus
  • Campus Access & Safety

Beginning April 6, 2026, a segment of State Route 243 will be permanently closed between Bent Creek Road (CR 118) and Eaton Road (CR 32) as part of the Chesapeake Bypass Phase 2 construction. This closure directly impacts all staff, students, and visitors traveling to the Collins Career Technical Center Main Campus in Getaway from the Proctorville, Chesapeake, and Huntington areas, requiring the use of alternate routes such as Big Branch Road, Eaton Road, or Slate Run Road. Commuters traveling to the Main Campus from the Coal Grove and Deering directions are not affected by this closure and may continue to use SR 243 as usual. Drivers are advised to consult the interactive detour map below and allow an additional 20–25 minutes for their commute until the project's estimated completion in Fall 2028.
